Board of Assessors approves $17,629 in motor vehicle abatements, exemptions

Board of Assessors · Meeting of March 25, 2026

Monson Board of Assessors approves $17,629 in vehicle abatements and 22 personal exemptions. Chair Christopher W. Haley, Vice Chair Dorothy P.

Jenkins, and Clerk Russell A. Bressette Jr. unanimously approved the abatements and signed excise commitment #2 for $137,269.55, with Bressette Jr. abstaining on items where he held a financial interest. Principal Assessor Andrew Pehoviak reported that Assistant Assessor Kate McGrath completed her Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers Course 200 and that the office plans to request monthly probate correspondence from Hampden County under state law to track ownership changes.

The Board discussed the proposed $3 million town override at length, with Chair Haley noting that of 21 override attempts in Monson since 1989, only two have succeeded, and that the current ask exceeds the largest previous attempt by five times.
