Monson Library's Great Reads Series Hosts Wampanoag Center Speaker
DATELINE — MONSON
The Monson Free Library's monthly civic hearing calendar and community read program provided the town's most concrete news heading into the weekend, with a Wampanoag Community Center speaker briefing readers Thursday evening and a Zoning Board of Appeals hearing now set for next week.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Monson Free Library's "Great Reads MA" discussion group met Thursday, Sept. 17, in the DeSantis Community Room for its second session on this year's statewide selection, "Nothing More of This Land: Community, Power, and the Search for Indigenous Identity" by Joseph Lee. Bradford Lopes of the Wampanoag Community Center joined the group virtually to give a brief presentation on the book's subject matter and answer questions from participants, according to the library's event listing.
Registered readers received a free copy of the book while supplies lasted and are being invited to a virtual question-and-answer session with author Joseph Lee later this month, the library said.
COMING UP
The library's Great Reads MA series continues Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a Scrabble Night for adults and teens from 5 to 7 p.m. in the general library, and Qi Gong with Randy Emerson from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in the DeSantis Community Room; no registration is required for either. The Palmer Monson Family Network's weekly Playgroup for children ages 0 to 6 meets Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The Monson Zoning Board of Appeals holds a public hearing Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Select Board Meeting Room at Town Hall, 110 Main St.
Registration remains open for the library's virtual Great Reads MA Q&A with author Joseph Lee, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 7 p.m.
