School Committee approves five-year bus contract bid, grade 1 relocation, and two school calendars.
School Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Monson School Committee unanimously approves grade 1 relocation and bus contract bid. The committee voted 5-0 to authorize issuance of a five-year bid for bus transportation as the current contract expires June 30, with Superintendent Paul Foster citing cost stability advantages of longer terms. The Committee also voted unanimously to move grade 1 from Granite Valley School to Quarry Hill/Early Childhood Center beginning 2026-2027, reducing enrollment concentration and establishing a PreK-1 configuration.
Chair Alison Morgan noted developmental benefits for early reading instruction. The Committee approved a $9,700 MyCAP grant for career and pathway exploration support and adopted 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school calendars with updated labeling. Transportation budget shows an anticipated $64,500 shortfall due to added IEP-related runs and a new preschool run.
