School Committee approves legal-services contract, advances four health and behavior policies.
School Committee · Meeting of January 21, 2026
Monson School Committee advances four conduct and health policies. Chair Alison Morgan's committee unanimously approved an amended legal-services contract with Dupere Law Offices and moved policies on student fundraising, activity accounts, smoking, drug and alcohol use, and harassment to second read or final adoption. Superintendent Paul Foster reported the FY2026 Operating Budget holding with approximately $141,240 expected remaining by year's end, while a transportation services shortfall of $31,000 persists.
Foster's FY2027 budget overview projected level-service requests reflecting 2.4 percent expenditure growth and operating requests at 5.4 percent, dependent on uncertain state grant revenue; the Committee deferred vote on adopted Massachusetts Health and Physical Education Standards for Grades 6-8 after Vice Chair Karen Nothe-Valley requested sample lessons and a before-and-after curriculum comparison.
