School Committee approves revised school choice seats, transportation contract
School Committee · Meeting of May 6, 2026
Monson School Committee unanimously approved amended school choice allocations and a five-year transportation contract. Superintendent Paul Foster recommended increasing kindergarten choice seats from two to four and reducing fifth grade seats from ten to two to accommodate higher kindergarten enrollment projections and support a relocating family; the shift remains budget neutral through a new fourth kindergarten classroom. The Committee awarded the transportation contract to JP McCarthy and Sons LLC beginning September 2026, reflecting a 7 percent first-year increase and 3 percent annual growth thereafter; separately, members unanimously revised the FY2027 transportation budget to $1,441,428, down from $1,472,748, reflecting final contract terms and a planned reduction from ten to nine routes.
