School Committee reviews FY 2027 budget pressures, level funding directive
School Committee · Meeting of March 25, 2026
Monson School Committee reviews FY 2027 budget under level-funding directive. Superintendent Paul N. Foster and the committee discussed revenue adjustments, potential cost reductions, and equity concerns: Monson students at Pathfinder Regional School receive 5.5 times more funding per resident than students in Monson Public Schools, with Pathfinder's 10 percent increase equating to $1,463 per Monson resident served versus 1.9 percent growth ($260 per resident) for MPS.
The Finance Committee has directed the schools to submit level-funded operating and transportation budgets; the one percent annual increase guaranteed last year will not occur this year. No formal votes were recorded.
