Select Board joins tri-board budget override discussion.

Select Board · Meeting of March 16, 2026

Monson's Select Board joined the School and Finance committees to weigh a $3 million tax override for the June ballot. Town Administrator Jennifer L. Wolowicz and Director of Finance and Budget Sherri Roberson presented a shortfall projection of $1.6 million, with department-by-department cuts totaling 7.5 percent as the alternative.

Roberson recommended the override as a three-year bridge to allow strategic planning. Finance Committee Chair Peter Fimognari supported a ballot measure but objected to simultaneous cuts while schools requested a 6.5 percent budget increase. School Superintendent Paul Foster noted a 20 percent enrollment decline and stated level-funded budgets are no longer sustainable.

Select Board Vice Chair Patricia A. Oney urged departments to submit level-services budgets before final cuts were set. No formal override vote was recorded.
