MONSON — Water Commission shuts down Ellis Mills fire system over major leak. The system at 288 Main Street has leaked an estimated 40,000 gallons per day, with the owner billed since July at a lower rate and the balance unpaid; Deputy Superintendent William L. Brault will notify the owner, Fire Chief, and Building Commissioner of the shutdown decision.
The Commission also grappled with FY27 budget pressures, including a 12 percent health insurance increase, pension costs rising to 36.38 percent of payroll, and an additional $46,200 interest payment due to short-term borrowing renewal. A final $123,000 PFAS settlement from 3M was received.
